Grunewald – easy hike

This is a copy/paste of hiking instructions I use when organising hikes in Grunewald forest

We’re going on a pleasant walk through the beautiful forest of Grunewald. The route is based on one organised by Fred. We start at Heerstraße S-bahn station at 11:00am, then meander our way up to the top of Drachenberg where we will get a terrific view of the Teufelsberg spy domes and Berlin city, then make our way around the side of Teufelsberg towards the Havel.

We then head to Grunewaldturm, an historic tower constructed in 1888 to celebrate the 100th birthday of Emperor Wilhelm I. We will stop here for a quick snack and drink if the biergarten is open.

From Grunewaldturm we head back into the forest, making our way to Großer Wannsee, then onto Nikolassee S-Bahn station. We will stop at a biergarten here. From here you can make your way home via the S-bahn 😀

Since there are often many people attending, it is not possible for the organiser to keep track of everybody, so it is important to make sure you don’t get lost. Grunewald is a very small forest, so If you do get lost, just keep heading in one direction and you will eventually hit civilisation 😀
